From Roger D.: Do you realize what Greg Wilson is asking for with his Acorns app? He’s asking for all of the personal information required for a devastating scam of a person’s financial life.

There is something terribly wrong with a reputable newsletter allowing such an advertisement on its page!

Reeves’ Comment: Roger, Greg didn’t ask for that information… and he’s not the designer of the Acorns app. Whoever did create it may be in for a big payday, though… The app—which rounds up every credit or debit card purchase to the next dollar, and transfers this “loose change” to a special investment account—seems to be catching on.

From J. Anne W. P.: Regarding Mark Ford’s essay on decision making… Sleep on it! Unless you are on a sinking ship, almost no decision needs to be made instantaneously.

While asleep, the brain allows unconscious thoughts/knowledge to link together with known information. In the morning, a clearer, more careful decision may emerge.

From Mason B.: I just read your decision-making article on Nietzsche and his philosophy of “erfrarung” (primary knowledge, or experience) and “wissen” (secondhand knowledge, like books). I am overwhelmed by the irony of the article.

It’s written by a man, Mark Ford, who has made millions selling his erfrarung as wissen. Although I enjoyed the discussion, I just had to point that out.

From Jeffrey D.: I’ve learned from experience not to listen to people regarding anything you are interested in pursuing.

Years ago, a job came up I was interested in. I asked some people in the industry about it. I was told by one and all to avoid that job at all costs.

Years later, I was asked to take it again on a temporary basis. It turned out to be one of the best jobs I’ve ever had. The “temporary” job lasted 14 years. It could have been longer had I not listened to other people in the first place.

Always investigate and gain your info firsthand. Another old saying that may apply for Mark is: Numbers don’t lie, but you can lie with numbers.

Reeves’ Comment: Great insight, folks. Thanks for sharing your wisdom with the Palm Beach community.
